The Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall challenges elite students to perform at their very best. Students rehearse and perform under master conductors and have the opportunity to perform before invited representatives from collegiate and professional music programs. Though much of the students’ time is focused on performance preparation, the week also allows students to experience the best of the sights and the performance arts in New York City.
The Middle School Series showcases the most talented middle school performers from across the United States, Canada, and select international schools. Through an individual nomination and selection process, accomplished middle school students are brought together in New York City with peers to comprise the Honors Choir and Honors Instrumental Ensemble. Several days of rehearsal under the direction of our renowned music conductors culminate in a life-changing performance at Carnegie Hall. Carnegie Hall represents excellence in musical performance, making it the perfect venue for the Honors Performance Series to showcase its elite student performers.
The honor of participation in the Honors Choir and Honors Instrumental Ensemble is limited to select middle school performers. Selected student performers receive the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with and learn from renowned conductors as they prepare for and perform at a truly world-class venue – Carnegie Hall. In a special performance, students perform for New York concert-going patrons, educators, and family.
In most cases, qualified students are invited to apply after having been nominated by a music teacher familiar with their accomplishments. Given that not all directors are aware of the opportunity to nominate, students are also given the opportunity to self-nominate and apply. Students who wish to self-nominate must, therefore, additionally include a teacher recommendation (form is provided in the application) as part of their application submission.
To be considered for selection to the 2015 Honors Performance Series, students must be in the 6th-8th grades during the 2014-2015 school year and must submit a complete application. All applications must include the following components (please note that application materials will not be returned):
